What We Do.

The aims of The Glamorgan Spring Bay Historical Society Inc. are to collect, record and restore archival material from the Glamorgan Spring Bay area. We collect copies of documents and photographs and other material in private and public collections, which relate to the Glamorgan Spring Bay council area. Our aim is to increase awareness of the heritage of the area for local residents, visitors and tourists and historians in general.

The GSBHS has been around for more than 30 years, initially formed as a sub-committee of the East Coast Branch of the National Trust of Australia (Tas) in 1991. In 1992 the Society was granted funding from the Glamorgan Council for equipment, and given a permanent home in the then War Memorial Building in Swansea. With continuing funding from Council and the National Trust, The Glamorgan Historical Society was formed. The Society was well on the way towards pursuing the aims of preserve historical documents and photos of the at that time Glamorgan municipal area, and was the beginning of the organisation we have today. 

In 1993 the Society changes it’s name to The Glamorgan Spring Bay Historical Society (following on from local Council merger). The Society was incorporated as a not-for-profit entity in 2008. In 2011 the Society moved back into the now renovated and extended East Coast Heritage Museum Building in Swansea main street. We look forward to continuing collaborations with the Heritage Museum in highlighting the history of the area.
